The folks at Popular Mechanics have a great survival guide section on their web site with great tips on how to survive almost any type of disaster.  While these plans are not specifically designed with zombies in mind many of the same concepts apply.

It covers what supplies to have, what to do when power fails, suggested survival gear, and many other things to do in preparation and during a disaster.  It is a fairly quick read and is broken into sections so it should be easy to find what interests you.

I personally liked the printable checklists for survival kits for car, home, etc.    They make great starting points for folks, but most will end up personalizing them depending on their needs.  A couple items that never seem to be on these lists, but I think are essential for kits - especially for car kits - A hat and sunscreen!  If you have to hoof it several miles in the sun then a broad brim hat and sunscreen can save you a lot of pain and damage.

Where should one go in the event of a zombie outbreak to obtain supplies?  Of course, it is best to have a stockpile of food and water ahead of a time for any disaster - zombie related or otherwise.  But, should you be caught in an emergency where should you go?

Most people will probably head to the local grocery or super Wal-Mart.  In my opinion, this popularity makes them a bad choice for the smart zombie holocaust shopper in search of extra food and supplies.  People can be dangerous in lawless conditions and especially dangerous in zombie outbreak situations. 

A possible alternative would be your local drug store.  Most drug stores now contain a fair amount of shelf stable food that requires no refrigeration, water, batteries, flashlights, medical supplies, etc…. 

Another choice might be the discount shops like Dollar General or Family Dollar.  They also carry a fair amount of food and various other supplies.  They even have tools!

Take the time to notice all the products these businesses stock the next time you are out.  It just might save your life if we should ever have to face a zombie outbreak.
