Site Review: DAYoftheDAWN.com

Another zombie related web site has been brought to my attention - DAYoftheDAWN.com: The Zombie Film Archive.
It is a fan site with synopsis info, crew summaries and trivia about the great classic zombie horror films. I love the trivia section as I always seem to learn something new. The first thing that popped out at me is how good the site looks. Excellent design work!
It looks like it is growing so be sure to check it out from time to time to see what all turns up.
I forgive them for including 28 Days Later in their list of zombie movies. I'm a zombie traditionalist in that I think zombies must be reanimated dead not just whacked out dudes with a bad cold, but it seems I'm in the minority on that subject. Heh. ;) It is a good movie though.

If The Dead Ruled at Worth 1000

A co-worker sent me this link - Worth 1000 is have an undead photo contest:
Your job is to show a typical day in a world where the dead rule. Don't simply create a zombie or vampire - show them doing something, like reclining in their coffin waterbed, enjoying a family picnic in the cemetery, or shopping for brains at the local supermarket. You can also show products that would be popular with the life-challenged, like vulture repellant or sun block SPF 5000.
Lots of undead goodness to be seen.
Hat tip to Alonzo

I learned of a new zombie site on the net - ZOMBIEDAWN.COM. It has a lot of stuff from movie reviews to a discussion forum and a bunch of animated zombie stuff. Hmmm, are zombies animated or reanimated dead? Heh heh.
The Outbreak Weaponary section is my favorite. It contains reviews of various weapon types, their damage rating, availability and list of films that show each weapon in action.
Drop on by ZOMBIEDAWN.COM and see what this Romero fan has to offer.

Review - Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green

Well, I finally managed to get a copy of Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddlers Green and I have to say that I was disappointed. My expectations were not high as I figured it would be lacking in some areas, but unfortunately, it was found lacking overall.
Problems include:
- Sluggish feel to your characters movement.
- Level design like what you might expect of a game from the mid 1990s (was actually released Oct. 2005)
- Poor textures. I had all settings to max quality and they still looked very low resolution.
- Zombies seem too hard to kill and also seem too strong. I saw one zombie even smash through a stone wall!
- Apparently, the zombies don't bite when they attack, so there is no fear of turning. Just pop a bottle of med pills and everything is fine.
This game might have been cool some years ago, but the technology and style of the game is very dated. The only thing I did like was the rag doll physics and the ease with which zombie limbs could be severed.
This is not a complete review as game play was so unsatisfying that I stopped playing after about 3 level load points. I originally thought they stopped making the game because of licensing reasons, but now I suspect that it was simply because the game really sucks.

Update: HungryZombies Shirts & Stuff

After being less than impressed with my protoypes I decided I needed a better idea of what to expect out of the manufacturing process.
Toward that end I have made a couple shirts with test colors on them. (I highly recommend this to anyone thinking about using an online service to make tshirts and the like.) This way I will know what colors will work best to achive my design goals.
So, HungryZombies.com shirts and stuff will be arriving very soon!

Projects By Committee Suck Donkey Balls
By Zombie Wrangler @ 10:50 AM ::

I'm a full time web developer/graphic artist. It is usually a nice job. I get to deal with good people and I enjoy the creative process. However, some projects are sent straight from hell to torment me for ages. If I was freelance I could tell these folks to stuff it and move on, but I'm not a freelancer and thus must work on the projects that come in.
Here is a bit of advice for folks getting into web development. (Actually, I'm sure this advice is applicable for folks in almost any field.) Make sure any project you accept has a single clearly defined leader/decision maker. In my experience, projects by committee suck donkey balls. The project will remain an amorphous blob, never taking shape…always shifting. It will become an albatross around your neck, consuming more time and resources than it is worth.
I write this today because I'm in that very situation. I am in the middle of a project that never seems to move forward, but consumes ever larger amounts of my time. There must have been hundreds of content changes by now and an untold number of graphic and layout changes because there are at least 8 people making decisions.
Sometimes I think a zombie outbreak would be welcome as it would free me from this hellish project.
